7 Reasons to Grow Your Own Weed by SlowerFuture

1. Money

Weed is expensive.  If you’re paying between 150 and 350 for herb, imagine cutting that expense out of your life.  Sure there are some start up costs involved, but many people can make those back on their first grow!

2. Health

You know what is in your weed because you grew it.  Many states, including California, don’t have regulations in place to test for dangerous pesticides that could cause health problems and many of which are illegal.  If you grow your own, you can keep you stash clean and safe for your own consumption.

3. Empowerment

Especially if you use cannabis

medically, the act of creating your own medicine from sun, soil and sweat is a wonderfully concrete way to take control of your own health.  As patients we are used to being prescribed medications with names we can’t pronounce and would need a chemistry degree to re-create.  Growing weed is the opposite of that.  It’s a natural, understandable and reproducible medicine that most anyone can make at home.

4. It’s Fun to Grow Your Own Weed

Most people who start growing

seem to develop a taste for it.  Like taking up a hobby or caring for a pet – it’s easy to let growing marijuana become an addiction.  Some of my fondest memories are growing weed, outdoors with a wonderful view.

5. Because It Should Be Your Right

“If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.” – Thomas Jefferson. It could be argued that growing weed is an act of patriotism. We have a rich history of disobedience here in America and many farmers before you and I have been imprisoned for it. We’re lucky to be on this side of legalization in history, but we’re not free still in most of America to grow a plant that is beneficial and natural without fear of prosecution. That’s wrong.

6. You Can Keep the Industry in Check

Drill down into the actual text of most state’s legalization bills and you’ll find plenty of limitations set on citizens from plant limits to rules not allowing you to grow if you live within a certain distance of a dispensary.  Don’t be fooled into thinking that the companies that profit from it aren’t the people lobbying for you to not be able to grow your own.  Most states that allow medical marijuana do allow you to grow your own. Home growing of marijuana is probably the most important thing you can do to keep prices low, keep quality high and keep the power for yourself.

7. A Deep Sense of Satisfaction

The sense of elation on harvest day never goes away for me.  Even if it’s totally legal, I feel like I got away with something . After a lot of hard work, there’s a good amount of true satisfaction. When you lose a prized plant, the pain is real, it’s like watching your favorite football team lose.  Alternatively, the outcome is beautiful, delicious weed, the pleasure is real.  You will believe you grew the best weed just like every parent believes THEY have the best child. You’re not wrong. You’ll enjoy your weed more than any other weed you smoke, because YOU made it.
